Winter Months

As in most of Nova Scotia, we have the extremely busy summer tourist season, the slower but still busy shoulder seasons of spring and fall, and then there is winter…quiet. The new owners must be prepared for this reality. It is important to be open seven days/week in the summer, at least for July and August, but probably more. It is fun and energizing.

Winter for us is a wonderful long luxurious stretch of personal time; a chance to work towards exhibition pieces, research, and travel. We have found that by topping up our summer season with the NSDCC Christmas Market in Halifax and the Annapolis Christmas Market, we have been able to survive through the winter months without opening our shop. There is also the possibly of selling work at the thriving indoor Wolfvile Farmers Market, Saturday mornings, about an hour’s drive.

Although the population swells in the summer and shrinks in the winter, there is still plenty to see and do here – some would complain that there is too much going on and it is impossible to do it all. Many local businesses stay open year round, and more would be welcome.
